QUESTION: Sanctuary/Religious activism in Dallas, TX

question / pregunta:

I am currently researching Quaker culture in Dallas, TX. I discovered that in 1983 the Dallas Quaker Meeting House agreed to provide sanctuary to Central American Immigrants in need. I am wondering if there is any record of an immigrant taking sanctuary through the meeting house, or any conflict with local law enforcement regarding a claim of sanctuary.

I research Quaker cultural history too. Your best resource is going to be their yearly meeting (SCYM, South Central Yearly Meeting) archives at Swarthmore College. I recommend consulting with an archivist there to see whether the Dallas Friends Meeting's records are organized. I would expect their annual "State of the Meeting" or any newsletters would mention whether they had actually provided sanctuary to anyone at that time. Their historical library & archives page is at http://www.swarthmore.edu/academics/friends-historical-library.xml
