ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR MEETING NOTES
November 29, 2006
MayDay InfoShop at Theater for the New City

Attendance: Adriana, Eric, Jenna, Mary

This meeting was sort of a strange one, since we're sort of on hold until we hear back from Judson and St. Mark's. Poor attendance was also a factor, as was Adriana's discovering a few minutes into the meeting that her bag was missing. She was a little distracted after that.

  1. Unrelated, but while I'm thinking of it Mary wanted a list of national archives databases. Use this list http://tinyurl.com/ydhjcq, but note that some of them are subscription only. They're not all union catalogs, but you can figure out which ones you want.
  2. Patrick asked someone else to follow up with St. Mark's Church. Eric volunteered.
  3. Just before the disaster, Adriana showed us an image she proposed for the site and posters.
  4. Jenna liked it, not sure about Eric, and Mary had some concerns. Adriana said she would scan the image and post it to the list.
  5. If we don’t use that image, Eric suggested getting something from a WW3 Illustrated artist. Jenna suggested asking Cristy Road.
  6. We identified a whole lot of jobs to be done/tasks to be coordinated that are unclaimed. They include (plus I added some just now):
    • Coordinating presenters, including the call for them
    • Coordinating exhibitors, including the call for them
    • Coordinating childcare
    • Being responsible for our working group’s communications (like posting to lists when we’re meeting)
    • Coordinating food
    • Fundraising
    • Event program
    • Web content
    • Publicity
  7. Eric, Jenna, and Mary each generated content for a topic. Eric drafted a call for vendors and Mary a call for proposals. As soon as I get that info from them, I’ll add it.
  8. Jenna drafted a list of desired website elements, as follows:
    • List of exhibitors and a way for them to submit the form online
    • List of programs and a way for them to submit the proposal online
    • Childcare form
    • Ride board
    • Housing board
    • List of sponsors (not sure about that one—it would be NYMAA and possibly groups that help lay out costs)
    • FAQs (this would be based on actual questions we get)
    • NYC resources (black pages?)
    • Links—maps, weather
    • Neighborhood guide (yes, this and the preceding points are redundant)
    • Blog for announcements and maybe discussion?
    • Discussion board?
    • Way to pay online
    • Donation button
    • Calendar of events
    • Work space for the bookfair collective
  9. Each of us agreed to follow up on the area we covered and compare them to other book fair proposals or sites
  10. We agreed to meet again on Wednesday, December 6, as none of us was available to meet on Thursday the 7th.
    • In light of the theft and also because we were shushed several times, we thought that the InfoShop might not be the best spot for meetings.
    • Muste was unavailable, so we’re scheduled for ABC No Rio. I’ll let you know where in the building ASAP. I’m guessing the 1st floor gallery.

Notes submitted by Jenna on December 1, 2006. Send me changes if you have any. (I bet you can figure out how to fix the e-mail address.)
