Indymedia/Radical Reference Poster Project

Radical Reference and the NYC Indypendent are collaborating on a poster project. The original proposal from Arun Gupta of the NYC Independent Media Center follows. For more information, contact Michele McGinnis.

I want to propose to rad ref that you all and the indypendent do a series of posters. we did a poster in early 2003 detailing weapons of mass distraction in the U.S. that was very successful. we have something like five other ideas, and i thought it would be great to involve rad ref and your excellent research and fact-checking skills.

these are some ideas:

The New Great Game:
Detailing on a world map regional wars, U.S. military bases and aid, and energy interests, mainly fossil fuel reserves and which multinational corporations are involved in extraction. When you map all three, there is remarkable overlap.

Genealogy of the Radical Right:
Using a tree to show the roots of the radical right--the main groups, institutions, funders and personalities. I figure we would break it down into media, Christian Right, anti-choice, anti-environment, anti-queer groups, etc.

Anatomy of a Fast-Food Meal:
Showing all the inputs into a fast-food meal, from food sources, chemicals, packaging, etc., plus with facts on the environmental impact

Mapping the Body Toxic:
Showing on a human body where various toxic chemicals and carcinogens reside. Around the body we would show the sources of the specific pollution.

I thought we could even name it the Indymedia/Radical Reference Poster Project.

We want to try to do all these posters this year. It's ambitious, but I think it would help raise the profile of both our groups. If you think folks would be interested, maybe we can set up a meeting soon and talk about it.
